Lighthouse

Some photos of lighthouses which I would like to base my mine on.

washed up items research

My Sand Troll in my story likes to collect items that have washed up on to the beach, so I've done a bit of research in to finding images of different interesting items.

Cooking Synopsis

These are some titles I might use for the series.

Lets bake!
Ready steady Bake!
Big Cook Book!
Annabel’s Cook Book!
Big Book Let’s Cook!
Lets cook, book!
Cook with me!

This series is about a young girl called Annabel, learning to cook with her big cookbook, who shows how to make delicious, inventive and fun recipes for children. This couldn’t be done without the help of her animate baking tools, who each have character and their own role.  Together they learn to cook and how to over come challenges.

This series is aimed at Pre School 2-6, and will teach them to cook and understand elements like ingredients, measuring and working in a team. Each episode lasts approximately 10 minutes, with 10 episodes in the first series. Every episode has one recipe, starting from preparing, to ending with the finished product.  Annabel the head chef comes in to the kitchen and greets the audience, and then says ‘Cook with me’. The big cookbook wakes up, and Annabel flicks through the pages and picks a recipe. She calls out what cooking tools she needs, and these tools climb out from their hiding places and on to the table top ready for their commands. As they are baking they will come across challenges, either with the characters or understanding the ingredients. I want to produce this series in Stop frame animation.

Synopsis 3 Minute

I have moved away from the seagull and lighthouse idea, and combined the lighthouse and the Sand Troll to create this idea.

A young girl named Sophie is working with her father at the lighthouse. She looks out across the beach and notices there is something strange moving out there. She tells her father, who tells her a story of a dangerous Sand Troll, who is rarely seen and wanders the sand in search of items that wash up. Sophie goes out in search of the Sand Troll and leaves a shell necklace in a glass bottle on the sand, trying to lure it out. She waits for so long that she falls asleep, and when she wakes the necklace has gone and she notices the tide had come in and cut her off. She starts to panic, but suddenly the Sand Troll appears. At first she is afraid but then realises that he is friendly. The Sand Troll takes her back to the shore, Sophie runs to pick something up to give to the Sand Toll but when she turns around he is gone. She looks around puzzled; the Sand Troll hides behind her, half sunken in the sand. She turns around and smiles seeing the top of the Sand Troll’s head. They begin to play hide and seek, Sophie runs in to a nearby beach hut, which is filled with loads of special items. The Sand Troll walks in behind her. She is really amazed by all this and picks something of the shelf. Sophie hears her Dad calling her and she goes out to greet him. She starts telling him about the adventure she has had. But her farther tells her that the Sand Troll is make-believe. As he picks her up to carry her back into the lighthouse, Sophie looks over his shoulder and notices the Sand Troll smiling and waving from the sand.

3 Minute synopsis

This is my lighthouse synopsis. I may change the ending, but this is the gist of it.

A lighthouse keeper is intent on renovating his lighthouse, but a mischievous seagull gets in the way. Both characters make things difficult for each other and eventually the lighthouse keeper gets rid of the seagull. Just as he finishes, the seagull and his friends come back and poo all over the lighthouse.

I have not yet come up with an plot line with the sand troll. I didn't know whether I should maybe mix the two.

Futures Synopsis

This is my first draft of my baking, which just needs a little bit of work.

In this series Annabel is a head baker and her big baking book shows how to make delicious, inventive and fun recipes for children. This couldn’t be done without the help of her animate baking tools, who are each characterised and play their own role within the series.

I thought about having the baking tools to have faces as well as arms and legs. I would also like the book to have it's own face and personality.

Choosing idea

When looking at my series ideas, I really liked my gardening. In the end it was toss between the gardening and baking. When I thought about it, I preferred the baking one in the end. Mainly because I know more about baking than gardening and people liked my baking tool characters.

When looking at my 3 minute it was more difficult. The story that everyone preferred was my lighthouse one, but I don't like it very much. I really like my sand troll but the plot line is very weak. So I'm going to do a synopsis for both the lighthouse and a new one with the sand troll.

3 Minute idea

This is the plot line I've come up with for the lighthouse idea.

The lighthouse keeper comes out of his front door of his lighthouse. The radio broadcasts that the weather is going to be nice. He looks at his lighthouse and realises how dirty it. Deciding it is a good day for cleaning, he goes back in and grabs a bucket and sponge. As he’s cleaning he finds an empty bird’s nest at the top of the lighthouse. When he removes it an angry seagull flies down at him. Not impressed the lighthouse keeper shoos the seagull away, which in return the seagull poo’s on his head. From here on the seagull gives a hard time for the lighthouse keeper, being a nuisance and coursing accidents, which stop the lighthouse keeper finishing cleaning. Angrier and angrier the lighthouse keeper gets, till he can’t take it anymore, and comes up with an ingenious plan to put marmite on to a sandwich. Just as he planned the seagull swoops down and steals the sandwich off him. It starts to eat away at it and chokes in disgust and flies off very upset. The lighthouse keeper is very proud of himself and finishes off cleaning the lighthouse. The next day the lighthouse keeper wonders what’s happened to the seagull, as he hasn’t seen it all night and all day. Then in the distance he sees a white cloud moving quickly towards him, but as it comes closer he notices it’s a flock of seagulls. He runs inside for cover and the seagulls’ poo all over, covering the lighthouse.

Some sketches of the seagull.

3 Minute idea 3

I've come up with a character that's a sand troll. I thought about having maybe a little girl going on to the beach and finding this magical creature.

This is the story I would probably go for.

A little girl aged nine lives at the side of the beach in a cottage. She goes outside on to the sand to fly her kite. As she’s happily flying it, the wind picks up and tugs hard at the string. The little girl holds tightly on to the handle but the wind pulls the kite and snaps the string. The kite flies off and the girl runs after it along the beach. Further along the kite drops and lands in the sea, taken away with tide. Upset and disappointed she wanders along the beach for a period of time, kicking pebbles, then sulks on to a sand dune. To her surprise the sand dune moves and reveals to be a sand troll. The Sand troll waves down at her and the girl wearily waves back, with the kite handle still in her hand. The sand troll notices this and draws a kite in to the sand with a stick. The girl is excited and follows the Sand troll to his shed, which is filled with all sorts of items he has collected from the beach. The Sand troll rummages around and finally hands over her lost kite. Very happy the little girl ties the string back together and runs outside to fly her kite again. She says thank you and runs back home with her kite under her arm.

3 minute idea 2

I've come up with a plot line for the puppy on the farm.

A small puppy is playing with a ball on a farmyard while the farmer’s wife is putting up the washing nearby. As he’s playing with his ball, he pounces on it so hard that it bounces in to a bucket. The farmer’s wife doesn’t realise and picks the bucket up and takes it to the pigpen. She empties the bucket of food in to the trough, along with his ball. The puppy tries to find it but the pigs keep pushing him out of the way. One pig finds the ball and pushes it out of the trough. Before the puppy can get to it a goose comes along and takes it away on to the roof. The puppy barks and scares the goose in to dropping the ball which roles in to a bullpen. He thinks about how to get his ball back, and remembers that the washing line had a red jumper on it. So the puppy gets the goose to chase him and run in to the red jumper, which in turn sets the bull charging after the goose. The puppy gets his ball back and goes back to playing with it.

Here are sketches for the characters.

Series idea

I’ve moved on and started sketching out characters for the gardening idea. I have a hedgehog wearing wellies and a gardening belt. A rabbit wearing dungarees and gardening gloves. A mole that is wearing thick glasses, wellies and carries a shovel. The squirrel is wearing a gardening belt filled with seeds. And I have a robin wearing a summer hat. All these animals I have chosen because they are seen in the garden and some help with gardening.

Saturday 17 September 2011

The series will be about a girl or mum character teaching to make fun looking food and cakes. I want it to be set in a kitchen and the chef to be behind the counter. Each episode she will make something different like animal shaped bread, shaped biscuits, and pizzas with faces.
Character Development

I thought of having the baking tools to be alive and have arms and legs, so they can moved and work together to bake.

Series idea 3

I’ve been trying to come up with my third idea. A lot of stuff that is popular for children is cooking/baking programs like ‘I can cook’ and ‘Big cook, Little cook'.

I like baking and have several cake baking books. One called 'My first cook book' aimed at children.
